The jazz symphony "Europeana" is a central work in ACT's catalogue. It embodies the power of jazz that spans regions, eras, styles and personalities. On the occasion of the 80th birthday of its figurehead, Joachim Kühn, this seminal work is now available on vinyl for the first time. In addition to Joachim Kühn, the album brings together the crème de la crème of contemporary European improvised music, including Albert Mangelsdorff, Django Bates, Klaus Doldinger and Richard Galliano, backed by the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover. The album, released in 1995 and written by English composer and arranger Michael Gibbs, combines the rich European musical tradition with the language of jazz. Symphonic music, swing, free jazz, blues and flamenco - all fuse into a unique, timeless and boundless music.
