Stranger

Description

Jo-Yu Chen is a pianist and composer born in Taiwan (in 1975) where she began her musical training on the piano at the age of five and then on the oboe at nine. Two disciplines that she would later deepen in New York. In 2005, after obtaining a doctorate in music education from Columbia University, Jo-Yu Chen decided to switch from classical to jazz, which she would study at The New School in New York starting in 2007. This would be followed by two intense years of learning during which her talent would be quickly recognized and which would allow her to meet some of today's great jazz piano masters such as Jason Moran, Sam Yahel, and Kevin Hays. "Stranger" is Jo-Yu Chen's third album. It was recorded with the collaboration of her loyal accompanists, bassist Christopher Tordini and drummer Tommy Crane.
