Love Letter, the posthumous album by legendary saxophonist Jimmy Heath, will be released on July 17th on the Verve label. It is a collection of ballads performed with disarming elegance. An album that is both pure and surprisingly ingenious.
In addition to some original compositions, it includes pieces written by Billie Holliday, Dizzy Gillespie, and Kenny Dorham. Some takes were recorded in New York the day before his ninety-third birthday, and the rest in Atlanta, sessions in which Jimmy gathered a prestigious team of colleagues and friends including Wynton Marsalis, Gregory Porter, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.
