Selective Memory

Description

Born in California and based in Manchester, Jesca Hoop is a true musician. Discovered by Tom Waits and recruited on tour by Peter Gabriel to sing in his band, it was a call from Guy Garvey of Elbow that propelled her to the UK. After collaborating with producers John Parish (PJ Harvey), Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes), and Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers), her six original albums have been praised by fans and critics alike. It's easy to see why: her songs, skillfully composed and rooted in folk tradition, are harmonic curiosities of great finesse, brimming with brilliant ideas and intense emotions. Selective Memory is an acoustic reinterpretation of Jesca Hoop's fourth studio album, Memories Are Now, joining the list of stripped-down versions of her first three albums. True to this tradition in their raw and spontaneous aesthetic, Hoop and her two companions, Chloe Foy and Rachel Rimmer, immortalized the album from A to Z during a live performance at Jesca's home in Manchester. This album is full of brilliant harmonies, generous lyrics, and authentic performances. Bittersweet, fresh and raw, it is deeply rooted in the present moment.
