JABEA

Description

*Jâbeâ* is the debut album by Jeano Elong, a Cameroonian singer and bassist. Hailing from Eboné, Cameroon, Jeano primarily performs in his native Bakaka language, blending traditional African sounds with influences from Hamburg's underground music scene. Produced by Ted Gaier (Goldene Zitronen) and journalist Christoph Twickel, *Jâbeâ* is rich in styles like Makossa, Bikutsi, and Highlife, with layers of psychedelia, Afro-beats, and experimental jazz elements. Elong's journey to Germany reflects themes in his music. After fleeing Libya during NATO bombings, he arrived in Europe and became part of the Lampedusa protest movement in Hamburg, fighting for refugee rights. Inspired by his roots, he began writing in Bakaka, bringing his mother's guidance into his work. Tracks like "Jâbeâ" celebrate artistic freedom, while "Vieux Fascistes" criticizes corrupt African leaders, and "Common" advocates for reconciliation within Cameroon. Each track echoes Elong's experiences, emphasizing unity, resilience, and a hope for peace.
