Jaye Jayle's music is perfectly suited for the hours after midnight, when the lights in the house are dimmed, the air is thick with humidity and tobacco smoke, perceptions are chemically altered, and every note carries significantly more weight. On his new album, "Don't Let Your Love Life Let You Down," Patterson continues to explore his unique style of meditative blues, all while breaking the chains of defeat and entering a realm that lies between Western stoicism and mystical wonder. He is joined, as always, by Todd Cook, Corey Smith, and Neal Argabright, as well as special guests such as Chris Maggio, Victoria Fisher, Patrick Shiroishi, and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Ben Chisholm, producer and multi-instrumentalist (Chelsea Wolfe), a "secret" member of Jaye Jayle, mixed the album in a "velvet landscape" style: "He's a genius to my ears. Ben's ideas are modern and saturated with layers of sonic colors. He takes the old American singer-songwriter model and imbues it with a kaleidoscope of sound textures drawn from half a century of marginal music." He ensured that the album's songs were "devastating, hopeful, and emotionally direct."
