Jamz Supernova Presents : Dance Around The World - Vinyle

Description

Jamz Supernova, host on BBC 6Music, DJ, and founder of the label Future Bounce, presents her new compilation "Dance Around The World" on Mr Bongo. Extending her radio show, events, and Bandcamp community of the same name, this compilation offers a journey around the world, from day to night, through 16 tracks by artists, countries, and scenes that have shaped her musical universe. Each track, several of which are exclusive to this compilation, tells a story of heritage and roots while pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds in their respective regions. From the island of La Réunion to Latin America, from East Africa to the Caribbean and the Pacific, it’s a 24-hour cycle that oscillates between downtempo and dancefloor. She has always been committed to highlighting underrepresented music scenes to new audiences. Far from any algorithmic influence, Jamz maintains a personal connection with each scene and each artist. Divided into two sides, reflecting two interconnected moods, the "Day" side offers sunny sounds rooted in activism, storytelling, and heritage. The track "Bittersweet," a collaboration between Gavsborg, founder of Equiknoxx, and Riddim Writer, a dub educator, kicks off with a rhythmic and powerful title from Groundsound. It sets the tone and defines the intent of the compilation while establishing a percussive thread that runs through each track. Elsewhere, the female maloya group SIMANGAVOLE collaborates with SOA RAVELO for a hypnotic and collective piece that touches the soul. Throughout the day, discover an ode to the sounds of Cape Town by Esa Williams, a punchy garage rock track from Oruã (Rio), and a fusion of traditional Guadeloupean rhythms with contemporary jazz and hip-hop thanks to Célia Wa. Heading to Tumaco on the Colombian Pacific coast, Verito Asprilla offers us "Quiero Ser Buena," a futuristic and catchy reggaeton track. As night falls, the rhythms pick up and the bass intensifies. Jako Maron's electronic remix blends his Réunion roots with a hypnotic synthetic vibe. Jus Now, the duo made up of Trinidadian percussionist Keshav and British producer Sam Interface, presents their global club sound, merging UK bass influences with Caribbean rhythms. Sam then joins Jamz for "Tan Toddy," an explosive dancehall production reimagined through the lens of UK bashment, featuring Lateena on vocals and Moses Boyd on drums. "Sin Africa" is another standout track, under the direction of Jamz, the album's artistic director. Brenda's catchy and hypnotic Latin club sound pairs with the depth of Diva Cruz's lyrics. This theme is prevalent throughout all the tracks. More than just a compilation, it is a sonic celebration that connects cultures, scenes, and perspectives. Each artist and each track pushes boundaries while paying homage to cultural heritage.
