Lewis's unique imprint is heard throughout \"Divine Travels\": excerpts of gospel melodies emerge and give rise to pure meditations, as in \"Wading Child in the Motherless Water,\" for example, which brings together the familiar melodies of \"Wade in the Water\" and \"Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child.\" But even when he does not explicitly reference such traditional pieces, Lewis reveals a penchant for folk melodies that he appropriates, explores, and develops.
