Description

Jah9 is the new revelation of New Roots Reggae, considered Jamaica's rare gem for her talent and beauty. She is among the most compelling spiritual and militant artists of the new generation, advocating a return to Roots Reggae values, drawing inspiration from 70s artists and Rastafari spirituality. Her singing, heavily influenced by Jazz, and her powerful yet graceful voice, give body to poetic lyrics. Discovered alongside Protoje, she has already worked with Donovan Bennett (Corleon Records), Beres Hammond (Harmony House), and Rory Gilligan (from the Stone Love sound system) who produced her first album, "New Name." She chose not to commercialize it in stores but to sell it exclusively at the end of her concerts. It already featured surprising tracks like the eponymous "New Name," "Legitimate" with Protoje, "The Seven Year Itch," and "Jungle." For this new album, Jah9 was fully involved in the compositions, lyrics, and even the production of the tracks. She drew inspiration from her activist life for the "Manifesto Jamaica" organization, which works with young people by providing them access to arts and culture, and also from her experience as a Yoga teacher and the positive vibrations she receives from her students. Surrounded by renowned artists such as Kevin Campbell, Franklyn Ben Up Irving, and Tippy Alfred, she delivers 9 impactful, melodic, and spiritually infused tracks.
