Bach, Liszt, Widor: Organ works at La Madeleine

This album is as much a tribute to the magnificence and complexity of an instrument as it is to the works that have shaped and marked its history. Always fascinated by the organ and its beauty, Jae-Hyuck Cho takes possession of the Grand Organ of the Madeleine, a legendary colossus that continues to exert its magnetism on composers and performers alike. The monumental figure of Bach necessarily responds to this powerful vector of imagination, before which the program chosen by Cho bows: from Toccata BWV 565 to Liszt's Fantasias and Fugues on themes by the great master, Jae-Hyuck Cho clearly establishes the lineage in which he wishes to inscribe his playing, offering an album conceived as a kaleidoscope, where each musical fragment echoes its origin. Far from considering only the major works of the repertoire, the organist does not confine himself to traditional clichés and presents here Pahdo, "wave" in Korean, a work by composer Texu Kim, commissioned and premiered by him. He thus demonstrates how musical history continues, drawing each time on its roots.
