À la radio

Description

From Parisian cabarets to the Alhambra, the birth of a giant of song: Brel, raw, real, unforgettable. In 1954 and 1956, radio recorded Jacques Brel's first public performances, in the cabarets Chez Geneviève and Chez Gilles. Accompanied only by his guitar, the newcomer to Paris delivered with the confidence of a future star his first compositions, including the song "Quand on n'a que l'amour," recorded here several months before the studio recording that would lead to its release as a 45 rpm single.Warning: a gem! In July 1965, Jacques Brel, at the peak of his career, recorded a jam session at Maison de la Radio during which he offered us a moving version of "Amsterdam," accompanied only by Gérard Jouannest on piano and Pierre Sim on double bass. The second side features a live recital recorded for the "Discoparade" show at the Alhambra in 1962, in which the artist, far from his confidential beginnings, is accompanied by a piano and a string ensemble.
