The extremely favourable reception given to our first CD and double vinyl of the original A and B sides of the late Isaac Hayes’ singles – originally issued on Stax subsidiary Enterprise between 1969 and 1972 – has compelled us to bring forward, this month, the release of “Hot Buttered Singles2” to meet with a popular demand that Ace predict will be just as strong. This volume picks up where “Hot Buttered Singles Vol 1” left off with Hayes’ final 45 of 1972, and continues his story through to 1976 – by which time Stax had folded and Hayes was on his own Hot Buttered Soul label, via ABC Records. It includes eight US R&B hits, among them the much-sampled ‘Hung Up On My Baby’ and ‘Chocolate Chip’, Hayes’ biggest hit of this period, ‘Joy’, and the ever-popular 1976 instrumental ‘Disco Connection’, which eventually provided Hayes with his second UK Top 20 hit after ‘Shaft’.All tracks conform to the original single versions and, wherever possible, are sourced from digital transfers of the original Enterprise single masters. Original two-part 45s are also made available here. And where original single masters no longer exist, as was the case with two tracks, Ace’s audio engineers have recreated them beat for beat from the longer album versions. (Have fun guessing which ones...)As with “Hot Buttered Singles Vol 1”, the LP artwork and CD booklet are crammed with label shots, many other images and a detailed sleeve note that expands in full on the songs featured. It makes the album look every bit as good as it sounds.
