Archive Series Volume no. 5
Description
NEW UNRELEASED ARCHIVES RECORDED BETWEEN 1998 AND 1999 BEFORE THE BIRTH OF IRON & WINE.Lost in the limbo of time, Archives Series Volume No.5 : Tallahassee is the very first album by Iron & Wine. This collection of songs was recorded three years before the release of their first official album The Creek Drank the Cradle in 2002 on Sub Pop. At that time, the concept of Iron & Wine did not yet exist. Folk songwriter Sam Beam was then studying at the University of Florida with the intention of pursuing a career in film. Tallahassee was recorded in 1998-1999 with his roommate and future band member EJ Holowicki. They lay down nearly 24 songs, ideas and sketches, with EJ on bass, and Sam on vocals, guitar, harmonica and drums. The recordings - captured in their home - have that "live in the room" feel found on Neil Young's Harvest or Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left. Strangely, the recordings are more polished than on The Creek Drank the Cradle and exude a strange sense of confidence. Tallahassee documents in 11 songs the very first steps of a journey that will lead to a career for one of the most original and distinctive singer-songwriters in the United States.FOR FANS OF BAND OF HORSES, M.
