For her third studio album VOODOO CELLO, Imany chooses to bring together eight cellos around her for a covers album that, while not forgetting their roots, becomes Imany's songs in service of her convictions. Eight cellos offer a multitude of possibilities between the low and high: "Sometimes, it feels like they can be brass or electric guitars... As if they were haunted." The choice of songs comes quickly, between classics that have always inhabited her and more recent favorites: "The principle of a good cover is that the song becomes yours. I take the song in voice-guitar, I find the key that suits me, I look to modify the tempo..." Even if it means making a light track deeper, or bringing light to some melancholic songs, thanks to a sound that has been carefully shaped yet is immediately spontaneous, raw without being abrupt, crystalline without being smooth. We smile, moved or surprised, we find ourselves grooving or letting ourselves dream...
