Rantala is a master of the recital; few pianists have explored the art of solo performance as intensively and consistently as Rantala. This recital, recorded live in Potsdam on November 27, 2021, is nonetheless the first time that one of Rantala's many solo concerts has been released on album by ACT. It is a beautiful example of his stylistic versatility: after a welcoming "Twentytwentyone," Rantala launches into "Time for Rag," which sounds like the soundtrack to a crazy Buster Keaton film. The central section of John Lennon's "Woman" is clearly inspired by the catchy R&B style of Richard Tee, a pianist Rantala particularly admires, but it masterfully leads to an ending that is initially melancholic and calm. A captivating album for all solo piano lovers!
