March 31, 2022, will mark the 150th anniversary of the flamboyant, visionary, and influential impresario Serge Diaghilev, founder of the legendary Ballets Russes. Released as a complement to the 22-CD box set "Diaghilev: Ballets Russes," this limited edition 3-LP deluxe box set "Igor Markevitch - Hommage à Diaghilev" is a reissue of the 1954 set initiated by Walter Legge, the famous EMI producer, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Diaghilev's death. The cover reproduces the original artwork designed at the time by Natalia Goncharova, one of the famous set painters for the Ballets Russes. The 32-page booklet, richly illustrated with historical photos and sketches of costumes and sets, includes the notes from the 1954 edition by Igor Markevitch. It features the Philharmonia Orchestra in works by Chopin, Satie, Debussy, Ravel, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, de Falla, Liadov, and Tommasini.
