After exploring themes of femininity, racism, and activism on ASH (2017), and themes of lineage, death, and their origins on their eponymous album (2015), Spell 31 sees the Ibeyi twins delve into their own spirituality and seek to reconnect with their ancestors.
Recorded in London in 2021, the band's third album features ten tracks written and composed by Ibeyi, produced with the help of their longtime collaborator Richard Russell, and includes appearances by Jorja Smith, Pa Salieu, and BERWYN.
This new opus sees Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi assert their unique musical identity, resulting from a captivating blend of Yoruba music with modern jazz, pop, electronica, soul, and hip-hop.
