The new folk psych signature of Bella Union. Recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma City, the young Horse Thief offers us here a debut album with Midwestern accents. Thanks to the production of the talented Thom Monahan (Au Revoir Simone, Vetiver), the album is a clever mix of raw live energy and meticulous studio arrangements. Currently on an English tour with Midlake (another great Bella Union signing), they surprise the notoriously hard-to-please English audience on stage. Singer-songwriter Cameron Neal enjoys describing their creation as an experience more than musical: The goal is to let oneself go into the sound and for the experience to leave a mark on people beyond the concert or listening to the album. An album full of promises, which bodes well for a bright future for these folk prodigies.
