PLATFORM

Description

HOLLY HERNDON Platform Holly Herndon is certainly the best-kept secret on the experimental post-pop electronic scene. Originally from Tennessee, raised on country music, Holly Herndon went to Berlin to study, where she developed an interest in electronic music, and more specifically in minimal techno. She then moved to San Francisco to continue her studies at the prestigious Stanford University, pursuing a doctorate in computer music. She released her first album in 2012, Movement, which was unanimously praised by critics, who saw her as the future of electro. Movement blurs the lines between musical genres, juxtaposes deconstructions, amplifies noises, and reworks sound material. Newly signed to the 4AD label, Holly Herndon offers an album that is more accessible than its predecessor, while maintaining her great artistic freedom. Platform is a singular album that deftly and harmoniously fuses the discordant spheres of electronic club music and academic scholarship. Holly Herndon offers us a true auditory experience, following in the footsteps of artists such as Julia Holter and Björk.
