In 2013, Shinichi Ishizuka began serializing his jazz manga BLUE GIANT. The story of young musician Dai Miyamoto captivated readers, and today, 10 years later, it has sold 11 million copies and been adapted into a film. The film has been a huge success through word-of-mouth and social media – it has been called “a manga whose sound you can hear” and has even influenced Japan’s real-life jazz scene (after a screening, attendance at jazz clubs and jazz cafés increased). It also won the audience award at the 2023 Scotland Loves Anime film festival. The screenplay is by NUMBER 8 – editor of the original manga and story director of the film – and the animation is produced by NUT, a studio that attracted attention for its Youjo Senki series.
