Wolfe and Colman Domingo tell the story of how one man helped create a movement. This biopic, with a screenplay by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black, traces the life and work of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, a Black, gay man who was a key architect of the 1963 March on Washington. The emotion that underscores Rustin’s triumphs and challenges in one of the most pivotal moments in American history is captured through the original score by Grammy-winning classical jazz composer and artist Branford Marsalis. Recorded in multiple cities—New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Charlotte, and New Orleans—the music was first recorded digitally, then mixed analog to a two-track tape before being mastered digitally again. This includes the track \"Show Me Your Ideas,\" one of the soundtrack's most dynamic compositions. The track seems to capture the initial rhythm of an idea and the effervescence of collaboration. According to Marsalis, it is the product of a scene that required \"creating a sound that translated enthusiasm sonically.\" \"There are many examples of that in the 60s. Blue Note Records required that most of the musicians they signed record at least one funky blues tune on their albums,\" he continues. \"Listening to Blue Note records by Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, to name a few, gave me an excellent sonic template to create the sound we felt best fit the scene.\" The big band approach in the track allows it to fluctuate between an individual and collective sound—which reflects the broader reality of Rustin's work in the Civil Rights Movement. An activist could conceive a particular initiative, but to carry it out on the scale necessary to bring about change, they had to be open to collaboration and rely on others. The *Joker* soundtrack album features original music by Emmy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir (*Chernobyl*, *Sicario: Day of the Soldado*), whose composition makes the cello the centerpiece of the score, leading string-based melodies played by a 90-piece symphony orchestra. The film was recognized with the following awards: WINNER OF BEST ORIGINAL SCORE ACADEMY® AWARD GRAMMY® AWARD GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD BAFTA AWARD To interpret the many themes explored throughout the film, director Todd Phillips turned to the composer early on. \"Hildur was writing music as early as pre-production. I would send her script pages, and she would write music before we even shot, and what she did for the movie is entirely unique,\" says Todd Phillips. Guðnadóttir notes: \"Todd asked me to write music based on what I had heard","brand":"Hildur Guðnadóttir","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55304368783704,"sku":null,"price":20241206.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0794043223013.jpg?v=1765822361","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/hildur-gudnadottir_joker-original-motion-picture-soundtrack_2024_pia","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
