Symphonie Fantastique

Description

Founded in 2008, Le Balcon is an artistic collective that has made a name for itself with its very original creations (Eötvös, Boulez, Stockhausen) that blend sound and visual innovations. This is the very first record from Le Balcon and its conductor Maxime Pascal, a recent winner of the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award. The masterpiece by Berlioz is here recomposed - or decomposed - by the young composer Arthur Lavandier and recorded in 3D sound! Very involved in the technological challenges related to sound, Le Balcon offers an original approach by layering three recording techniques (transaural, binaural, 5.1), each dedicated to a medium: physical, web, video. The recording took place at the Conservatoire d'Art dramatique de Paris, the very location of the creation of the Symphonie fantastique in 1830. For the Marche au supplice, Le Balcon, very open to amateur practice, called upon a street band from Carcassonne, "Tonton a faim"! It is also worth noting that the bronze bells used in the Songe d'une nuit de sabbat (300 and 600 kg) were specially cast for the recording by the Berlioz Festival in La Côte Saint-André. This first release inaugurates a new type of partnerships initiated by Alpha, which thus presents very creative musical ensembles like Le Balcon, allowing them to have full control over their project from A to Z, from production to communication.
