From the Howard siblings, we have the younger brother, Harry Howard, who is much more than just the guardian of the noise temple that are the Pop Crime evenings, a tribute to his brother Rowland S. Howard, guitarist for The Birthday Party, notably bringing together Lydia Lunch, Bobby Gillespie, Mick Harvey, Jonnine and Conrad Standish, JP Shilo, and even Nick Cave himself. With experience in Crime and The City Solution and These Immortal Souls, the Australian musician here channels the feverish melodies of Gun Club, Nikki Sudden, or Gallon Drunk and grinds them through the mill of a sparse, Suicide-esque production where the drum machine reigns supreme. The nine tracks of *Slight Pavilions* are hammered by the forces of no-wave and post-punk, then doused in a cold, Southern-Gothic romanticism typical of the best Australian productions. Far from being an easy reference, this is a precious precipitate of the noisiest contemporary music offered to us. And incidentally, Harry commits the heinous crime of remaining pop and danceable despite everything.
