Based in LA and sharing a house with Ashworth and Thomas, who also run a studio in the building, Duffy began fleshing out the songs that would eventually become Fun House. Emboldened by therapy and cajoled by Ashworth to push the songs into new unexpected forms, the resulting music was more intimately personal and stylistically adventurous than anything they had attempted before. The new songs also became a prism through which Duffy could begin to self-actualize in a new way. Friend and collaborator Mike Hadreas contributes vocals on \"No Difference\" and \"Just to Hear You,\" making it one of the most optimistic moments on the record, his voice offering a perfect counterpoint to Duffy. The push pull of styles, combined with songs that deftly move between the present and the past, give the record an extremely diverse hall of mirrors quality that suits its name.
