RELEASED IN 2002, 'HAMMERED' IS THE 16TH STUDIO ALBUM BY BRITISH ROCK BAND MOTÖRHEAD. IT WAS RECORDED IN HOLLYWOOD AND MOTÖRHEAD IS NOW A THREE-PIECE BAND, WITH MIKKEY DEE ON DRUMS, PHIL CAMPBELL ON GUITAR AND LEMMY ON VOCALS AND BASS. THIS GOLD AND BLACK 'SPLATTER' VINYL IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THIS RECORD. On April 9, 2002, Motörhead released their 16th studio album, Hammered. This was the third album recorded by the trio of Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee. Lyrically, the album takes on a darker subject matter and has a reflective tone, with the band citing that they were influenced by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Since 1975, Motörhead - led by the iconic and grungy British metalhead Lemmy Kilmister - have been producing fast, macho and aggressive anthems, including "Ace of Spades", "Killed By Death" and "Eat The Rich". The terms "trendy" or "critical darlings" have never been attached to the Grammy-nominated band, and 'Hammered' is not the record to change Motörhead's anti-establishment stance. The 11-song release will, however, satisfy long-time fans. The power trio rages - with piercing guitar solos and double bass - on the indispensable and winning "Brave New World", and is only slightly more "mainstream" on "Walk a Crooked Mile", which features melodic backing vocals and crispy rhythms matched with Lemmy's trademark gruff and guttural vocals. Lemmy is not a sex symbol, and it's unsettling to hear him sing somewhat romantic lyrics on "Dr. Love" and "Mine All Mine." Songs like "No Remorse" and "Voices From The War" seem more suited to the blunt personality of the singer-bassist. In fact, the most definitive "Motorhead-esque" signature of 'Hammered' is probably the bloody "Red Raw", which will give all but the most experienced headbangers a jolt.
