From Another World is more than an album title: it is an invitation to travel through centuries, continents, and emotions.At the heart of this project lies a meeting between two musical traditions: the elegance and architecture of European classical music and the expressive breath of Argentine tango. The Guttman Tango Quintet bridges these two worlds; it brings together musicians who are naturally inspired by both traditions, under the direction of violinist Michael Guttman. In From Another World, tango is not nostalgia. It is evolution. Just as Astor Piazzolla once freed tango from the dance hall and took it to the concert hall, Guttman dialogues with the classics that shaped Western music.Each piece on this album starts from a familiar theme (Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Dvorak, and others) and lets it wander all the way to Buenos Aires.What emerges is neither a parody nor a pastiche, but a transformation. Recorded in January 2025 at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, this inaugural album captures a moment of creative alchemy, that of an ensemble of classical virtuosos surrendering to the irresistible force of tango.
