Description

As indicated on its iconic cover, Jazzmatazz Vol.1 by Guru (MC and member of Gang Starr alongside DJ Premier) is "an experimental fusion of hip hop and jazz, presented by Guru." This album was born from Guru's unconditional love for jazz and was one of the first to merge a live jazz band, rap and R&B artists, and production based on hip hop beats.The jazz band that recorded on this album is nothing less than a kind of jazz All-Star band, featuring icons of the genre such as Donald Byrd, Courtney Pine, Lonnie Liston Smith, Branford Marsalis, Ronny Jordan, and Roy Ayers.On vocals, alongside Guru, we find contributions from Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport (Brand New Heavies), Dee C Lee (The Style Council), and French rapper MC Solaar.This reissue on 180GR blue vinyl, limited to 5000 copies, is released to mark the 25th anniversary of this emblematic album.
