Description

The acceleration of culture in the 21st century is such that the banality of everyday life seems increasingly out of control. It is this landscape that is explored on Arrow, the third album from London duo Gum Takes Tooth. Strong and profound yet imbued with melancholic and elegiac atmospheres, this record is also a manifestation of the band's subconscious. "I went through very difficult years, like most of the rest of the world – full of contradictions, uncertainties, moments of sadness followed by heartbreaking revelations, ecstatic truths and hopes," explains Jussi Brighmore. "Becoming a father during that time, thinking about the present and the future to be built, brought all of that out, intensely magnified and amplified." Formed in 2009, the duo of Jussi Brighmore and drummer Tom Fug quickly developed a unique approach where electronic elements are triggered by percussion to create an unclassifiable sense of fury, flirting between psych-rock, industrial, experimental and acid house while avoiding falling into clichés of any of them. Non-conformist to the core, this is a band that intends to continue breaking all paradigms that come their way, creating a collection of kinetic anthems to fight against daily oppression – a work led by machines but one that doesn't hide its feelings.
