Musica Callada - Music of Silence. Provocation? Challenge? Stylistic exercise? For Mompou, none of that. Against the grain of his century, he considered this collection his most accomplished work. Here, his universe stems from the mystical approach he builds around one of the stanzas of the Spiritual Canticle of San Juan de la Cruz: "The night calmed by the awakening of dawn, the music that has fallen silent, the sonorous solitude." Starting from this fascinating universe, I wished to mirror it with other music of silence. Either by choosing works by composers whose influence Mompou himself had claimed, or by freely associating pieces that seemed to call to one another.
