Robert Pollard: "I'm a student of hooks. That perfect combination of lyrics and chord progression that just gives you that shiver down your spine." Thick Rich And Delicious is chock-full of hooks. The album flows together as a classic power pop record, but don't confuse "pop" with "soft." Basic tracks were recorded live, straight to tape, with very little overdubbing. The band tracked in a Brooklyn studio at extreme volumes, capturing the spontaneity and electric energy of their legendary live show. Complementing Pollard's lead vocals are harmonies from Grammy-nominated Bobby Bare Jr and Pollard himself (aka "The Self Righteous Bros"). The sound delivers on the album's title - thick, rich, and delicious. Pollard stirs a fresh batch of songs in with a basket of unreleased gems dating back to the band's earliest days. The chorus of "Oxford Talawanda" contains a never-used hook that Pollard has been singing for almost his entire life.
