Formed in 1980, "Guerre froide" immediately became part of the post-punk/cold wave movement. The band quickly established its repetitive and hypnotic musical atmosphere, at times aggressive, at times haunting, over which the vocals laid lyrics imbued with both existential and poetic visions, laced with social and even political critiques. From its beginnings, for its live performances, Guerre froide chose to combine its minimalist musical universe with the projection of still or animated images. Growing from 4 to 5 members, the band released a 4-track maxi-single a few months before disbanding after two years of existence. "Demain Berlin," a delayed hit, brought posthumous recognition to Guerre froide well beyond France, throughout Europe and internationally.
