If you’re after an assortment of mellowtronica and rare dance music from two of the UK’s most esteemed curators, you need look no further than this brand new reissue of Groove Armada’s 2008 Late Night Tales outing: For their second collaboration with the legendary label (and a release that the BBC themselves admitted “delivers a selection of stone-cold belters”), Andy Cato and Tom Findlay painstakingly compiled a collection of tracks so varied it will leave even the most open-minded listener scratching their head on occasion. And yet, somehow, it works - from an unlikely cover of Gary Numan’s ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’ to the arcane Americana of Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve’s Roscoe mix, to a balearic edit of Will Young and a white isle ready edit of Chris Rea’s Josephine, the good ship Armada never fails to keep you on your toes. All aboard!
