Six years after their last album, the Seattle alternative indie folk band Great Grandpa returns with *Patience, Moonbeam*—an ambitious, deeply affecting new album that almost didn’t happen. The quintet reconvened, abandoned most of the song ideas they had cooked up, and started from scratch to work on what would become their best album to date. While 2019’s *Four of Arrows* was mostly constructed in the high-pressure atmosphere of the studio, with the help of an outside producer, *Patience, Moonbeam* emerged slowly through a generous demoing process. With fewer constraints and more control, the band had the opportunity to experiment and take their time, resulting in a collection that feels and sounds more fully realized, more assured. *Patience, Moonbeam* is the result of all five members transparently contributing to the creation of the album. The result is a record that swings like a pendulum between intensity and tenderness, playfulness and gravity, sonically illustrating the pains and pleasures of life through eleven songs.
