Route du vertige

Description

Grand Veymont develops around a simple setup, allowing for surprises and play: vintage organs, a minimal drum kit, a beatbox, a flute, and two voices. All born from improvisation and a rather dizzying mastery. It's no coincidence that after a first EP released in 2016, their second album (released in 2018 by Objet Disque) was called "Route du vertige" (Vertigo Road). After the re-release and superb reception of their first EP in England in 2019, their new album "Persistance & changement" (Objet Disque 2020) pushes the experimental envelope further with a long 40-minute track/odyssey. To follow Grand Veymont is to agree to leave familiar territory for another, less charted, where time stretches, motifs pile up, melodies intertwine, and everything constantly shifts. Their music could evoke the experimental side of Stereolab, or serial music perverted by a pop pantheon and abstract vapors, like what krautrock might be if the Vercors plateau appeared on the map of contemporary music... So no systematic approach, just songs in French imbued with moods, desires, and flashes of brilliance. A beautiful program.
