This CD brings together probably the most beautiful orchestral music composed by Stenhammar; he created Symphony No. 2 in 1915 and the revised version of the Serenade in 1920. It was in 1953 that Herbert Blomstedt conducted the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra for the first time. With a career spanning over sixty years, he has earned the boundless respect of the musical world. Over the years, several remarkable ensembles around the world have had the opportunity to engage the services of this highly respected Swedish conductor, who was born in the United States and studied in Uppsala, New York, Darmstadt, and Basel. Now at 90 years old, with a tremendous mental and physical presence, verve, and artistic dynamism, Herbert Blomstedt continues to lead all the major international orchestras.
