The minimalist and breakbeat trio GoGo Penguin is back with their brand new album "Everything Is Going to Be OK". With a new drummer, a new label (XXIM Records, the electronic and classical label of Sony Records) and a subtly evolving and polished sound, the band inaugurates a more ambient era. "Everything Is Going to Be OK" was born from a period of turbulence and loss. During a time of oppressive mourning, the studio offered the band a sanctuary to protect themselves from real life. The resulting project draws its strength from a shared understanding and empathy. Life has many positive aspects and, despite difficult times, we should be more attentive to celebrating the high moments, without restraint. Through our trials, we will emerge stronger - everything will be alright. GoGo Penguin is a trio from Manchester, UK, consisting of Chris Illingworth (piano), Nick Blacka (double bass), and Jon Scott (drums). Formed in 2012, their second album v2.0 was nominated in 2014 for the Mercury Music Prize and in 2016, the trio signed with Blue Note Records, releasing a trio of critically acclaimed albums: 'Man Made Object', 'A Humdrum Star', and 'GoGo Penguin', as well as two EPs and a remix album 'GGP/RMX'. They have been the best-selling contemporary instrumental artists on the Blue Note label and have sold over 300,000 albums. The band composes and performs as a unit, and the members of the band describe their music as "acoustic-electronica". Their music, largely (but not exclusively) acoustic, relies on breakbeats, classical influences, jazz, minimalist piano melodies, powerful bass lines, and drums inspired by electronic music and anthemic riffs. When describing GoGo Penguin's music, critics often reference Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Massive Attack, Brian Eno, and classical composers Shostakovich and Debussy, or contemporary minimal music composers such as Philip Glass. GoGo Penguin has toured extensively internationally, performing at international festivals such as Coachella, Outside Lands, Fuji Rock, Blue Dot, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Vienna, Pukkelpop, North Sea Jazz, and many more, and has sold out venues worldwide, from the Royal Albert Hall to La Cigale to Paradiso and Bowery Ball Room.
