IN THE CHOIR, A MORE INTIMATE ALBUM - After a five-track EP and a debut album praised for its originality in French-language pop, Goël returns with a more refined, folk, and resolutely contemporary sound. The taste for meticulous arrangements remains intact and serves a pointillistic orchestration, where crystalline guitar arpeggios are supported by a viola, a bass clarinet, and ambient-like keyboard layers. This desire for clarity has also extended to the vocals and lyrics, which, in this serene atmosphere, assert themselves even more with that distinctive writing style: precise, concrete, and rooted in a timeless perspective. Throughout this album, we discover a new gallery of characters, animals – again! – and settings contemplated from afar or up close, depending on the mood. We also find that way of weaving little fables with enigmatic morals, but which are rooted in the reality of objects or landscapes of all kinds: marine, terrestrial, urban... According to Goël himself, these twelve songs feature figures evoked by childhood memories and, overall, more personal lyrics. The choir mentioned in the title is also the one that populates and animates memory, the one where we hear the departed as well as the living.
