After two iconic releases dedicated to Jommelli and Pergolesi, cornerstones of the golden age of the Neapolitan school, Giulio Prandi presents his third recording centered on the Italian choral repertoire. Facing the challenge posed by this essential Rossini masterpiece, Prandi chose an original and bold path, the result of deep artistic reflection. The brand new critical edition from the Rossini Foundation of Pesaro is used here for the first time in a recording studio; three rare instruments, more or less contemporary with the work — Erard and Pleyel pianos, a Debain harmonium — were selected to ensure an authentic, vital, luminous sound, guaranteed by the artistry of keyboardist Francesco Corti, professor at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Illustrious soloists were engaged in the persons of Sandrine Piau, José Maria Lo Monaco, Edgardo Rocha, and Christian Senn. Finally, the fundamental contribution of the Coro Ghislieri, an ensemble renowned worldwide in the field of early music, seals a recording of rare quality.
