Gidon Kremer returns to Deutsche Grammophon with the works of Glass, Pärt, Kancheli, and Umebayashi. After more than ten years, Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer makes his return to the yellow label with this brand new recording of Philip Glass's Second Violin Concerto "The American Four Seasons." The first recording of this concerto (in 1993) on Deutsche Grammophon, performed by Kremer, had become an essential reference in the label's contemporary catalog. This extraordinary work is now at the heart of the repertoire of Kremerata Baltica and was played for the first time with Gidon Kremer in San José, Costa Rica in August 2013. The album also includes works by Arvo Pärt and Giya Kancheli, two composers closely linked to the violinist, both of whom will celebrate their 80th anniversary this year. Gidon Kremer concludes this disc with a short piece by the famous Japanese film music composer Shigeru Umebayashi, in tribute to his Japanese friends.
