This extremely alert and highly inventive album is dedicated to the memory of the late Umberto Eco, a lifelong friend of accordionist Gianni Coscia, and one of the most fervent admirers of this duo like no other. As usual, the Italians develop their discourse from a wide network of influences and references, interpreting themes associated with Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, and George Formby, paraphrasing Janácek, diving cheerfully into the world of film music, and improvising very freely while constantly keeping their dedicatee in mind - as when they revisit 'Interludio', a piece on which Umberto Eco and Gianni Coscia collaborated over 70 years ago or when Gianluigi Trovesi imagines a new composition from the letters composing Eco's name. In more than one way, 'La misteriosa musica della regina Loana' is a brilliant and moving tribute.
