Ghostpoet reinvents himself with his third album. After the release of the cathartic and salvatory Some Say I So I Say Light in 2013, Obaro Ejimiwe a.k.a. GHOSTPOET moves forward with a new album that sounds like a return to his roots, but also a new beginning. In many ways, Shedding Skin evokes GHOSTPOET's first album released in 2011 and nominated for the Mercury Prize, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam. However, it differs from the latter in that it was recorded very quickly, with the band that accompanies GHOSTPOET on stage: Joe Newman on guitar, John Blease on drums, and John Calvert on bass, who also co-produced the album alongside Ejimiwe. To these, many collaborations are added that color the album, including those of singers Lucy Ross, Etta Bond (magnificent on Yes, I Helped You Pack), Nadine Shah, Melanie de Biasio, and Paul Smith, singer of Maxïmo Park. By addressing themes that personally touch him, GHOSTPOET wanted to translate them from a universal perspective with the aim of conveying this message: whatever the difficulties of life, nothing is impossible for those who wish to achieve great things. This is certainly what he applied with Shedding Skin by creating a coherent and moving album.
