Somewhere in England

Description

"Somewhere in England" is George Harrison's seventh solo album. Released in 1981, it features ten songs and is the first album released by one of the ex-Beatles after John Lennon's assassination. The album was originally planned for late 1980, but Warner Bros. Records executives, dissatisfied with the commercial potential of the album's songs, ordered four new ones as replacements, asking Harrison to adapt to the styles of his era. He complied, but with a clear reluctance evident in some songs, notably "Blood From a Clone," a jab at these "men in suits." Among these new songs is "All Those Years Ago," originally intended for Ringo Starr and transformed into a tribute to Lennon. The drummer participates in the song, as does Paul McCartney on backing vocals. Carried by its highly successful lead single, which reached number two on the US charts, the album allowed Harrison to regain relative commercial success, reaching number 11 on the charts in the United States and number 13 in the United Kingdom.
