A Shaw Deal

A Shaw Deal is the debut album from Geologist and DS. They've known each other for a long time – predating Highlife, predating Shaw joining White Magic – going all the way back to the very beginnings of Animal Collective. DS first released his own music as Highlife on the 2010 album Best Bless EP. It showcased his sound steeped in African popular guitar music, British folk-pop, desert blues, and ritualistic spiritual energy. A couple of years ago, Brian stumbled upon Doug's guitar tracks on Instagram. He would let them loop for long periods, losing himself in them and emerging refreshed. This sparked the idea of running them through his modular system, editing, tweaking, and looping them as he went, creating new shapes and juxtapositions. From beginning to end, A Shaw Deal draws on DS’s guitar playing and the dynamics of its expression, bringing meditative waves into new forms while exploring the worlds within them.
