While her latest album "Lights Out Zoltar!" has just been released, Bronzerat Records is releasing a new and unexpected album by Gemma Ray on June 1st, spontaneously recorded between Christmas and New Year 2010 in Matt Verta-Ray's (of Heavy Trash) studio in New York. In 5 days, Gemma Ray recorded 16 songs, resulting in an eclectic compilation of covers performed in her inimitable style. The album, titled "It's A Shame About Gemma Ray," is a powerful and raw cocktail, from Gun Club to The Cookies, including Ella Fitzgerald, Obits, Mudhoney, Etta James, Gallon Drunk, Buddy Holly, Gershwin, Alex Harvey, Lee Hazlewood, and many others... It also includes a version of "Bei Mir Bistu Shein," a Yiddish classic. 2010 is a busy year for Gemma Ray, who will be playing in Germany at RockPalast, at the American festival South By SouthWest, at Canadian Music Week, as well as in Australia, South Africa, and Europe. Her album "Lights Out Zoltar!" continues to win over critics (it recently received the Best Eclectic Album award at the Independent Music Awards), as Jimmy Page attests: "I recently saw Gemma Ray in concert, and I was very impressed by her unique songwriting, her voice, and her musicality.
