When Gautier Capuçon discovered Elgar's cello concerto, performed by Jacqueline du Pré, at the age of just 7, he understood the emotional intensity of this work and established a special connection with it. Antonio Pappano describes the cello concerto as a largely contemplative work, one of the most inspiring written by Elgar, which would long influence English composers.
