Elgar & Walton: Cello Concerto

Description

This collaboration between Gautier Capuçon and the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Antonio Pappano offers us a unique and magical interpretation of the cello concertos by Edward Elgar and William Walton. When Gautier Capuçon discovered Elgar's cello concerto, performed by Jacqueline du Pré, at the age of just 7, he understood the emotional intensity of this work and established a special connection with it. Antonio Pappano describes the cello concerto as a largely contemplative work, one of the most inspiring written by Elgar, which would long influence English composers. Gathered in this album, we take pleasure in listening to the wonderful contrasts and similarities that exist between the works of the two composers.
