In the realm of the piano trio, the bar is set high, and it is among others the bassist Gary Peacock who has helped elevate it to the next level in the groups of Bill Evans, Paul Bley, and Keith Jarrett. It is with his current group that the bassist recorded the album Now this, last summer in Oslo. New vigorous versions of some of his famous melodies - such as Moor, Vignette, Requiem, and Gaya - are alongside recent compositions. Marc Copland and Joey Baron each bring their own melodies to the project, and the group also tackles Gloria's Step by Scott La Faro. The balance of roles among the trio members is an optimal context to appreciate Peacock's melodic inventions on the bass. Marc Copland always respects the needs of the compositions while Joey Baron brings both drive and sensitivity. Now this is released on the occasion of Gary Peacock's 80th birthday (May 12).
