Garbage (Shirley Manson, Steve Marker, Duke Erikson, and Butch Vig) announces the release of Strange Little Birds, their sixth studio album, on June 10 on their own label, Stunvolume. The album, produced by the band, is the successor to Not Your Kind of People, which was universally acclaimed in 2012. Working initially in Vig's basement and then at the Red Razor Sounds studio in Los Angeles, the members of Garbage drew from various sources of inspiration, from recent fan letters to the albums they loved growing up. "The guiding principle was to maintain a certain freshness and to trust our instincts, both for the lyrics and for the music," says singer Shirley Manson. Strange Little Birds is "less polished" than anything Garbage has ever done. "We fell in love with the immediacy," adds Vig. Some - including Manson herself - hear echoes of Garbage's first album released in 1995 in Strange Little Birds. "For me, this record, quite strangely, has more to do with the first than with any of our more recent albums," she says. "It returns to that early mindset. Which results, in part, from having no one to answer to."
