Al Suo Riposo/In Luce

Description

Gaia Banfi is a singer-songwriter, musician, and producer born in Milan in 1998. Her artistic work focuses on experimentation and the fusion of pop, vocals, and electronic music. Ethereal vocals and timbres intertwine in a play of contrasts, between electronic influences and distorted sounds, often pushed to the limits of what is singable, with the ambition of making the voice a true element of the musical production. Daughter of Baffo Banfi, long-time keyboardist for the Italian progressive rock band Un Biglietto per l'Inferno, she grew up in a musical world. At six, she began studying singing; later, she dedicated herself to classical guitar and violin, then earned a jazz vocal degree at the Bologna Conservatory, under the guidance of Diana Torto. In 2020, she released her debut album, Lotus, which marked the beginning of an increasingly personal and innovative artistic journey. Since 2022, she has collaborated with producer and artist AKA5HA, with whom she deepened her passion for electronic and experimental music, creating more sophisticated and daring sounds. In the same year, she launched the instrumental electronic project Non si può stare morti per sempre, presented during the eponymous exhibition by artist Ilaria Demo De Lorenzi. Between December 2023 and January 2024, she opened for Daniela Pes's concerts. Simultaneously, she continued working on new songs, and in January 2025, the path to the release of the album La Maccaia began with the release of the first single, "Piazza Centrale." The song, which featured Gaia on the cover of the Fresh Finds playlist, was included in EQUAL and numerous Spotify playlists, as well as in (DI)Versi and several playlists on Amazon Music and Apple Music. This track was followed by the second and final single, "Seia." Both songs were accompanied by lyric video clips, made from archival footage provided by the Ansaldo Foundation in Genoa. The album "La Maccaia," scheduled for release on April 4, 2025, on Trovarobato with the participation of NuovoImaie, has been lauded by the public and media as one of the best Italian albums of 2025. After an immersive listening session presented at Serra Madre in Bologna, the album continued its journey with a tour in Italy and Europe organized by All Things Live and Panico Concerti. The tour allowed Gaia to perform at prestigious festivals such as Trans Musicales de Rennes - where she also recorded a session for the renowned American radio station KEXP - ENSN in Groningen (Netherlands), and the MENT festival in Ljubljana, as well as numerous dates in France, where, as in the rest of Europe, her music is attracting growing interest. Upon her return, she released "In Luce," two new tracks, available in digital and vinyl formats since February 6 on Trovarobato.
