Rococo Variations

Description

Tchaikovsky composed the Variations on a Rococo Theme for cellist Wilhelm Fitzenhagen, who rearranged the variations, provoking the composer's anger. The cello part of the virtuoso Pezzo capriccioso was also modified by its dedicatee, Anatoly Brandukov. In the performances presented here, Tchaikovsky's original intentions are restored. To accompany these pieces, Gabriel Schwabe offers two personal arrangements: the Canzonetta from the Violin Concerto and the Valse sentimentale from the Six Morceaux. The album concludes with the second version - previously unpublished - of the romantic fantasy-overture Romeo and Juliet.
