Jardin
Description
After the masterful EP "Bishune," Gabriel Garzón Montano presents his first album "Jardin" on the California label Stones Throw: a Franco-Colombian, he lives in New York. That's the geography covered. As for the rest, his music leisurely wanders between soul and R'n'B with a sense of introspection and the bizarre that is currently associated mostly with Frank Ocean or Childish Gambino. From the opening tracks, "Trial" and "Sour Mango," it dives into a slightly twisted deep R'n'B (you could really think you're hearing Frank Ocean), but the palette of colors expands right after, with "Fruitflies" that seems to reference Christina Aguilera (yes, yes) and "The Game," a track set in a more funk and vintage tone. "I've always wanted to make music that feels good, that comforts, that is funky. I called this album Jardin to create a space where people could feel good as soon as they hit play." Garzón-Montano grew up with music. He first learned the violin, then the piano, the cello, and took up percussion. "My mother is the reason I love music." "It took me three years to write Jardin. Some songs came quickly, while others took longer to finalize." Jardin served as an outlet for Garzón-Montano. He plays all the instruments (except for the strings) and his writing came from atypical inspirations. "I read 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' by Nietzsche and 'Illuminations' by Rimbaud, which enriched my thoughts. Subway rides are my favorite moments to read and take notes. I read and wrote a lot on the C train, between the Kingston Throop stop in Brooklyn and 72nd Street in Manhattan." From the melancholic drums of the track "Crawl" to the more staccato movements of "Bombo Fabrika," Garzón-Montano is one of the talents to watch in 2017.Buy Jardin at the best price
